No podr\u00edem entendre la medicina moderna sense els fotons com a eina per diagnosticar i tractar pacients. A l\u2019hospital on treballo com metgessa<\/b>, gr\u00e0cies a les fibres \u00f2ptiques dels endoscopis, podem accedir a llocs amagats dins dels cossos dels nostres pacients sense necessitat de procediments invasius. A m\u00e9s, varis sensors i t\u00e8cniques de imatge<\/b>\u00a0 ens possibiliten veure i obtenir informaci\u00f3 de dins dels cossos per poder diagnosticar de forma m\u00e9s precisa. En els darrers anys, els l\u00e0sers<\/b> s\u2019han convertit en eines imprescindibles en molts quir\u00f2fans per\u00a0 cirurgia d\u2019extrema precisi\u00f3. M\u2019agrada sentir-me segur portant cotxe, aix\u00ed que qualsevol innovaci\u00f3 en seguretat m\u2019alegra. Per exemple, estic content que al meu\u00a0 nou cotxe hi hagi sensors de llum infraroja<\/b> que m\u2019ajuden a aparcar i que m\u2019avisen quan algun cotxe s\u2019apropa molt evitant-me ensurts i fins i tot alguns accidents!<\/p>\n

En alguns anys, espero poder comprar un cotxe aut\u00f2nom<\/b> per fi podr\u00e9 estar m\u00e9s calm i relaxat en mig del tr\u00e0nsit, perqu\u00e8 el cotxe far\u00e0 tot el treball. Molta de la feina de detecci\u00f3 d\u2019obstacles el faran uns polsos de fotons infrarojos, potser fins i tot detectats per c\u00e0meres de graf\u00e8!<\/p>\n

Fa uns dies vaig veure com la meva filla de dos anys intentava (sense \u00e8xit) fer lliscar la p\u00e0gina d\u2019un diari amb el seu dit. Per a una persona com ella, que va n\u00e9ixer en un m\u00f3n on hi ha pantalles per tot arreu<\/b>, fins i tot a la nevera, \u00e9s natural pensar de poder interactuar amb qualsevol superf\u00edcie o paraula escrita.<\/p>\n

Aix\u00f2 no seria possible si durant els \u00faltims anys les pantalles no haguessin millorat tant, guanyant en definici\u00f3 i funcionalitat. Qui hauria pogut imaginar poder interactuar de manera tan intu\u00eftiva amb una m\u00e0quina fa unes d\u00e8cades?<\/p>\n

L\u2019ICFO <\/b>posa el m\u00e0xim esfor\u00e7 per convertir el coneixement que s\u2019hi genera en un impacte positiu a la societat en forma de productes i tecnologies<\/b> en col\u00b7laboraci\u00f3 amb la ind\u00fastria o mitjan\u00e7ant la creaci\u00f3 de spin-<\/i>offs<\/i>.<\/p>\n

L\u2019ICFO ha obtingut m\u00e9s de 100* fam\u00edlies de patents en els camps de la salut, la informaci\u00f3 i la energia. Es tracta per exemple d\u2019 innovacions en microsc\u00f2pia i manipulaci\u00f3 \u00f2ptica, dispositius nanotecnol\u00f2gics, c\u00e8l\u00b7lules solars, sensors de graf\u00e8, sistemes l\u00e0ser, pantalles avan\u00e7ades, impressi\u00f3 3D, dispositius wearables, tecnologies qu\u00e0ntiques i sensors compactes per a \u00fas en entorns hostils.<\/p>\n

L\u2019ICFO s\u2019ha envoltat d\u2019un ecosistema de empreses amb qui col\u00b7labora en diferents projectes industrials, on es troben tamb\u00e9 les seves 9* spin-<\/i>offs<\/i> i les altres que estan encara a la fase d\u2019incubaci\u00f3.<\/p>\n

Si divid\u00edssim en mil parts el di\u00e0metre d\u2019un cabell, arribar\u00edem a l\u2019escala de algunes de les nanopart\u00edcules que es fabriquen a l\u2019ICFO. Tot i ser tan petites, aquestes part\u00edcules s\u00f3n \u00fatils per a diferents tecnologies innovadores,<\/b> que s\u00f3n possibles gr\u00e0cies als nous fen\u00f2mens que emergeixen a aquesta min\u00fascula escala.<\/p>\n

A l\u2019ICFO, molta gent est\u00e0 explorant el nanom\u00f3n, intentant millorar el nostre coneixement dels nous fen\u00f2mens que emergeixen a aquesta escala diminuta. Tamb\u00e9 pretenen desenvolupar noves tecnologies, com ara nous materials per a tel\u00e8fons m\u00f2bils i dispositius wearables<\/i>, diagn\u00f2stic i tractament de malalties, sensors de fotons i c\u00e8l\u00b7lules solars.<\/p>\n

Un feix de fotons ben enfocat pot arribar a atrapar objectes i despla\u00e7ar-los de una manera delicada i precisa<\/b>: aix\u00f2 no \u00e9s ci\u00e8ncia ficci\u00f3, sin\u00f3 una t\u00e8cnica fot\u00f2nica extremadament \u00fatil i vers\u00e0til que va fer mer\u00e8ixer el premi Nobel al seu inventor.<\/p>\n

Podeu trobar pinces \u00f2ptiques a varis laboratoris de l\u2019ICFO en diferents \u00e0rees d\u2019aplicaci\u00f3: per exemple, es fan servir per atrapar \u00e0toms per entendre millor les seves propietats, per mesurar la mobilitat i l\u2019elasticitat d\u2019algunes c\u00e8l\u00b7lules o per estudiar petits objectes\u00a0a la frontera entre la f\u00edsica qu\u00e0ntica i la cl\u00e0ssica.<\/p>\n
